Inspired by the Hon’ ble Prime Minister’ s impetus on Jal Sanchay, Government of India has launched the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) to revive India back to a sustained system of water conservation and efficient irrigation. In this regard, Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development has come up with a Samagra Shiksha Jal Suraksha (SSJS) campaign to promote water conservation activities for the school students in our country. The concept of water conservation taught in the school will enable students to indulge in water conservation activities in their day to day lives. With this initiative, school students will become competent, conscientious and committed water citizens of our nation. The campaign targets to save one liter of water every day per child thereby saving 365 liters of water in a year. Approximately ten crore children throughout the country will save 36500 crore liters of water in ten years.

Inspired by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Human Resource Development’s appeal made during the launch of ‘Samagra Shiksha Jal Suraksha’ campaign, the Ministry has requested all the States and UTs that every student must plant a tree on his/her birthday. The students may be encouraged to plant a tree, take a selfie with it and show it to their school teachers. The best efforts of students in tree plantation a may be awarded suitably. The activities may be taken up through the Eco–Clubs also.
